Logan City Council – Mayor’s Local Jobs & Skills Taskforce

In response to high unemployment rates, particularly youth unemployment, the Logan City Council established the Mayor’s Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce. This initiative aims to connect local job seekers with employment opportunities and address workforce challenges, directly contributing to the Logan Economic Development Strategy.

Highlights

  • Job placement success: Since November 2021, the Taskforce has reduced unemployment from 9.1% to 4.6% and placed 247 job seekers in employment, including 46 youth.
  • Targeted events: Multiple events and expos attracted over 2,000 attendees who were then connected with 150 employers, resulting in numerous job placements.
  • Resource development: The Logan Jobs platform saw over 10,000 applications and increased engagement from both job seekers and employers.

Through close collaboration with local businesses, industry, education service providers, and youth organisations, the mayor’s taskforce is helping to foster sustainable employment pathways and strengthen the local economy.
